SHP Grand Rounds lecture, UT System Heart Walk, health fair on tap for February
Several on-campus events schedule for February will spotlight public health:
The School of Health Professions’ Grand Rounds lecture series offers attendees a chance to learn about health conditions from the perspective of the full range of health professions.
This spring’s first of two lectures is set for Feb. 1 on the topic of diabetes and obesity. The April 12 lecture topic will be spinal cord injury. Lunch will be provided. Lectures run from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at MED 3.309L and STR 1.102.
February is American Heart Month, and the UT System Heart Walk will be held at all institutions on Feb. 10. The UT Health San Antonio walk will start at 10.m. at the flagpole in front of the AAB on the Long campus. The walk will last 10 minutes and blood pressure readings will be available.
The School of Health Professions is hosting a Health Professions Fair on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in LEC-Lecture Hall Commons. Students from the Occupational Therapy, Medical Laboratory Science, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies and Respiratory Care programs will be on hand to offer information and answer questions about their respective programs.
“Our hope is to give a better understanding of what each of the health professions does and the differences in our domains, in a quick, fun, light-hearted manner,” said event organizer Sarah Purcell, a first-year master’s student in Occupational Therapy and president of the class of 2018.
The event is open to students in all schools.
