School of Health Professions dean and vice dean for research to receive awards from ASAHP

School of Health Professions Dean David Shelledy, PhD, RRT, RPFT, FAARC, FASAHP, will receive the Legacy of Excellence Award this October from the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP). 

Shelledy will be just the 13th recipient of the award, which honors nationally or internationally recognized leaders in health professions who are strong  advocates for health sciences and health professions and publicly promote the contributions of the health professions to the healthcare workforce. Under Shelledy’s leadership, the School of Health Professions has grown significantly in student enrollment, number of academic programs and research activity.

Shelledy was the founding chair of the Department of Respiratory Care from 1994 to 2004, before serving as associate dean for academic and student affairs for the College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and then as dean of the College of Health Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He returned to lead the School of Health Professions as dean in 2014.

Vice Dean for Research Timothy Reistetter, OTR, PhD, FAOTA, has been selected as a 2026 Fellow of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions. According to ASAHP, this award “provides meaningful recognition to those members who have contributed significantly to health professions as administrators, educators, clinicians or researchers.” 

A professor with tenure and a prolific published researcher, Reistetter joined the School of Health Professions in 2019. He will be inducted during the ASAHP Fellows luncheon during the ASAHP annual conference in October.
